Name: Randall Grim (a.k.a Aseir Basha)
Class and level: Wizard 3(Divination) Race: Feral Winged Tiefling (SCAG variant p. 118) Background: Urchin Alignment: Chaotic Neutral Size: Medium Experience: 900/900 Proficiency bonus: +2
Appearance: Randall is smaller than average (around 5'6''), relatively slim (130lb) and has a dark-red skin tone, which is quite evident under bright light but under certain circumstances would simply appears a lighter and more vivid variation of the brownish color tone typical from the Calishite humans from southwest of Faerun. Due to this fact he, more than once, introduced himself under typical aliases from such regions (Aseir Basha being the most recurrent of them).
As a Tiefling, Randall manifests a thick tail of approximately 5 feet long, black Ram-like horn of a discrete size (due to his young age), and entirelly functional bat-like wings sprouting from his back.
Randall also has long black hair matching his eyes, which are entirely and completely black, which results in his constant and persistent urge to avoid eye contact whenever possible.
Randall methodically avoids showing his Tieflings traits as much as possible: he wears a long dark robe where he can tuck his tail out of sight and a long hooded black cape where he can avoid both his horns and wings to being exposed (although, by doing so, he appears to have a pronounced hunchback). He also uses his disguise kits constantly with the same purpose, usually to mimic the traits of an aged man.
Randall is not particularly good in being convincing about anything, and that’s why he knows the best way to stay out of troubles or to achieve any goal is to lurk in the shadows and avoid to draw any attention to himself.

Personality Trait
- I think anyone who’s nice to me is hiding evil intent. - I bluntly say what other people are hinting at or hiding.
Ideals
- Aspiration. I'm going to prove that I'm worthy of a better life.
Bonds
- I escaped my life of poverty by robbing an important person, and I’m wanted for it.
Flaws
-It’s not stealing if I need it more than someone else.
Assumptions
- Randal is always disguised in order to minimize his Tiefling traits (usually as an aged man) - Randall`s Owl, Hope, is normally resting peacefully in his shoulders. She would leave his side only under his commands or if imminent peril threatens her. In the last case she will fly away to prevent an attack to the best of hers abilities while still remaining relatively close to his master. - Randall avoids eye contact whenever possible and typically keep his head down, while doing so he will perceive the world around him through his owls eyes and ears whenever the need for sharp senses arises. - Randall`s keep his spellbook chained to his body underneath his robes. - Randall study his spellbook every time he gets a chance to rest. - Randall keep only a small amount of gold pieces in his pouch (no more than 10). The rest always safely tucked into his backpack. - Whenever Randall`s about to take a rest he will scout the area nearby using his Owl to make sure the area is safe. - Randall carefully arranges his clothing to cover his wings, but in a way if the need arises he can quickly spread them, by having openings in his robes and carefully covering them only with the cape.

Backstory:
Randall was the fourth child of the Grim family, or as he would understand later on the one that should not have been.
The Grims were a humble and poor family in a small village located northweast of Neverwinter and south to the Lurkwood Forest. They lived in a modest lodge in the outskirts of a hunting village. His father Bruenor was a simple lumberjack with no much to strive in live other than to provide food and shelter for his family. His older brother, Dorn, would follow his father’s footsteps as an assistant in order to ease the burden of his own mouth.
His two sister, Kerri and Miri, and his mother, Arveene, served as maids in the Lockhart Keep, house of the local lord, Baron Evendur Lockhart.
Randall´s birth actually took place inside the keep. As it was quite earlier than expected, Arvene felt the pains during her cleaning shift in the kitchen. And that was definitely not a normal labor pain, it was excruciating, as if her body and soul would have been torn apart and entirely shattered in small pieces, and them reassembled back so the process could repeat itself over and over again. It took more than 40 hours and when she finally embraced the child, her heart became full of sorrow, grief and despair instead of the much more expected maternal joy. The child had a dark reddish tone color and did not resembled in nothing the pale skin of all his siblings, “how could this have come to pass?” His eyes were inhuman and unlike nothing she ever seen before and strange protrusions could be felt in his forehead and back.
As it would have been expected, the arrival of Randall tore the entire family apart. His father rejected him, as he did not recognized in him his own blood. The family stick together, for survival, but it would be too much to expect understanding from such a simple man. He turn his pain into drinking and occasionally would seek revenge in his own family, never sparing the children about his own feelings and theories about their mother, and never hiding his profound hatred on Randall for simply existing. More often than not the pain wouldn´t be inflicted only by words.
His mother felt in disgrace. Becaming known as a whore in the settlement, she would spend much longer periods serving in the keep without coming back to the lodge. This is where the little Randall mostly grew (she would avoid leaving him alone with his father at all costs), always tucked on clothes carefully prepared by his mother to avoid his unnatural characteristics being exposed.
Spending most of the time in the Keep, Randall was growing to become smart, quiet and discrete little boy, three characteristics that served him well, as he would soon be requested to a number of chores and tasks, soon becoming the most efficient servants in the eyes of the Overseer, or at least for a small child.
Seeing Randall become more and more capable every day, Arveene felt suddenly relieved from her burden and start to gradually decrease her presence in the keep until at some point she simply stop to show up for good. As his sisters would have already stopped to serve in the keep much sooner than this, he never heard from his family again. Maybe they tried to restore their simple lives from the ashes without him to constantly remind them of their disgrace, or maybe they walk their own paths to find each one their own misfortunes. He didn’t know, he didn’t ask, he didn’t care anymore.
Among his chores, one day he was assigned for the social rooms to serve the lord and his family (he was about 12 then and at this point it was still possible to hide his traits under a hood). In one of those occasions he met Ava Lockhart, or to be precise, she met him. He was stunned to be noticed, he was barely visible to the important people (as he would call everybody that does not to keep their heads down), how she could have notice him? She was about the same age of him, incredibly smart, clever and curious, although she was not allowed to leave her chambers often or to step outside the keep. Against all odds she befriend him, obviously in secret, as it would not be a normal thing to befriend a servant, but she had a free spirit, she would not care. Her silver hair fascinated him since the beginning, but not more than her eyes.. They were also different from the others, without a pupil and of a silvery-blue color he never seen before. Those eyes he´ll never forget, not only because they were singularly beautiful, but because they were the ones in his whole life which looked to him with dignity, respect and kindness.
They would spend time together whenever possible, whispering in the shadows. She would tell him the amazing stories she heard from her mentors, about knights, warriors, dragons and powerful wizards. He loved the parts about the wizards and their magic, and told her multiple times about becoming one eventually.
As he grew and his traits became more apparent she would not avert her sight, as the few others that knew about it would. Even when his wings start to grow she would welcome the news with excitement instead of horror (as he would expect from everyone else). He knew very well his place in the world, but he could not help himself to fell in love with her, even if she cannot love him back he would not care…. But he would not ask, he was too afraid of the answer. One night, they were particularly close to each other, and he was suddenly invaded by the courage to reveal her his feelings only to be awkwardly interrupted for her intention to give him a memento, a small silver badge in shape of a 5 pointed star. Took by surprise and losing completely any courage he had before was only able to stutter, “it reminds me your hair”. Latter in the same night he would morn “I should have kissed her… stupid”.
If only he knows that this was literally his last chance and his joyful moments were soon to end. Not more than two summers passed since they met and not more than one night following the memento incident he failed in keeping his wings concealed during a crowded feast. In order to avoid commotion and fear of the guests the Baron skillfully converted the incident in a freak show for the amusement of his great audience, exposing the humiliated servant as an animal, the “amazing beast-boy” he would call him.
Ava vouched for him to his father in private afterwards leading him to grasp her intentions. His concern was great but brief, as Ava would know soon enough that the feast was set to decide her fate. She already came to age and her father was striving to increase his own power through an alliance. In two nights she was set to leave to a distant land, promised in marriage to the most powerful ally that attended to the feast.
The incident however led the Baron to take additional precaution, as her final destination was not to be disclosed, under the capital penalty. As much Randall tried, he was not able to find out where she was reading to, once nobody would defy the ruthlessness of the Baron. He would never have heard from her again, although in the deep of his heart, this small sparkle of hope would never cease to exist.
The next day Randall would be too busy to care from his own though: the incident would not only evoke additional precaution, it would also draw the hatred of the Baron himself towards him. Not longer a servant he become a prisoner right after Ava departure, he would be kept chained like an animal and beaten constantly, and the humiliation caused in favor of guests amusement became more and more frequent.
He eventually was able to steal his chains key from a lousy keeper, and put his wings to proof as he flew away to freedom. However freedom for a poor boy is much more a burden than it is a bless, and he struggle to wander to Neverwinter in the hope to find more like him.
Arriving there, he would soon desire he never did, as the regular population would look towards him with distrust (not because of the superstition and prejudice he was already used too, but because of the Asmodeus´ cult ravaging the city). The other Tieflings would look to him as a pitiful human of impure blood, also for them he would be no more than a displaced monstrosity. He found solace among other outcasts in the city, when in need, people tend to be less demanding as long one can contribute to provide. Moreover, in this new found dysfunctional family he found a very particular type of acceptance, or at least while he were able to help the group in their robbing and stealing activities.
Not much time passed and his “family” loach was found surrounded by city guards. Outnumbered and hopeless he flew away, leaving his companions to their fates, which he would discover later to be the gallows pole. From atop of a church in the city square he saw once more the devilish intents of powerful men coming to pass, as poor and hungry bastards, with little children amongst them, are hanged for stealing food to survive. While seeing this outrageous spectacle, he kept reasoning to himself: “coward, maybe, but what use would have another body? How another death could have ease the other fate?” however, he was never free from the guilty of leaving others behind. And with this episode a brand new layer of bitterness and disbelieve embraces his once kind heart, following many other layers that were already put there before, and preceding much more yet to come.
He proceed forward, trying to provide for himself, as to avoid to depend on other or to look for others. But the world is not a friendly place for those like him, and he was eventually caught stealing.
Instead of having to wait to get his hand cut as a punishment, a clever, yet corrupt, guard saw the economic potential on the “beast-boy” and sold Randall to a slave smuggler. After several days of an uncomfortable trip he was sold to Aqor Evoqinn, a kinky and despicable old Wizard with a very particular set of interests on his kind and bloodline.
Again in chains, this time in a mage tower, Randall spent most of his time doing mundane things for his new master, while occasionally serving as subject to his wicked experiments. He witnessed the commoners to pay him homage and present offerings multiple time despite the fact he has nothing to inspire other (even the Baron, cruel as he was, was able to inspire love and fear). “How such a despicable man can be liked and respected. He’s not strong or wealthy, nor kind, beautiful or anyhow admirable. Is this the power of being Knowledge? Is this the power to be accepted as himself?” he would reflect many times. The man however grew fond of Randall. Not as a person, but as a pet, and would keep him chained in his own chambers.
However, this time Randall saw an opportunity in his own misfortune. Although in many cases the pain was hard to endure the old mage could not keep his mouth shut while studding, which he was doing pretty much all the time. He would mutter every word as if speaking to himself or when making sense of the discoveries or information he come across. And the ability to stay quiet, almost invisible, once more was proven useful, as the man would often forget he was not alone and even when not, his own pride would not make him refrain himself in the presence of inferior beings. In the five years he spent in captivity, he was not only able to understand his origin, but also to learn about history, arcane mysteries, spellcasting, and other incredible things. He was even able to learn the infernal language the man kept studying.
To his own demise, one night the man was studding and experimenting with poisons, explaining to himself, in details, about the attributes, characteristics and effects of each one of them. This was enough to be killed in his sleep by a potent poison administered by Randall. It took a while to find the keys for his magical chains, fortunately he was aware of the wizard´s traps and glyphs to avoid any harm. In that night he would spread his wings to freedom once more, but not before taking a sack of gold and the most precious object of the man’s collection, his spellbook.
Although there was much things of value in the tower, it would have been unwise to take much longer. The man was important and Randall could use all the time he have to put as much distance he can between them before the murder was uncovered. His existence was of common knowledge among the local village and the mage´s servants.
With the stolen gold Randall was able to provide for himself for several months, wandering from Inn to Inn. During this time he became adamant in acquiring more knowledge. “This is the key to be free, to be myself, and maybe to find Ava… no this is just a fool´s though, I must focus”.
Randall exhaustively studied the spellbook until he was able to understand and cast his first spells. He also took the time and knowledge he learn with his outcast family to craft for himself several fake identities. He got for himself a familiar, and he decided to call her “Hope”, as it felt appropriate.
Randall needed more however. Wandering from village to village he became an expert in the art of stealing secrets, Important Peoples’ secrets. Not many powerful people refrain themselves to share secrets because an owl suddenly lands in a balcony, a spider climbs a wall or a rat lurks in a dark corner. Everything can be sold, its not different with valuable information: The combination of a safe, lover letters used for blackmail, dates and times for valuables transferences and cart routes, anything that he come across he would sell to the first interested in a ghetto or a tavern using one of his fake personalities. Even better, when such secrets ends up changing the political balance in one village or city.
Not much time has passed and his newfound talents were noticed by the Zentharim and he was swiftly enlisted. Randall saw in the organization an opportunity to grow his network in his pursuit of knowledge. The organization also provided him with the sense of belonging he always strived.
The latest assignment he got from the organization is what brings him here. He was asked to follow and discover anything useful about Thurl Merosska, a knight of the Feathergale Society, whose recent actions raised eyebrowns across the realm, to the point somebody of a great importance would agree to pay the Zentharims’ price (which is not low) to get more information about him.
This is where Randalls journey brought him so far. But he has a strange feeling that his true adventure is only about to begin…
